A Perfect Easy Last Minute Homemade Christmas Gift

With Christmas only five days away some people may be able to take a deep breath and relax knowing that they have completed their Christmas shopping. Others may have to take a deep breath to calm themselves because they have not completed their Christmas shopping. With that being said, if you have not completed your shopping and are looking to make a homemade gift for someone in your life for under $10 then this is the post for you!

I am super crafty and love DIY projects. Because I am that way, I have always wanted to learn how to knit. Unfortunately, I am by no means a knitter or crocheter. I have tried it before and it did not work out for me, but when I saw this project and yarn I knew I could work with it. This magical yarn is called loop yarn. What is so special about it is that you don’t need any needles to knit with, the loops are already made for you, you use your fingers and fingers alone, and it is so easy once you get the hang of it.

There are different brands that make this yarn and the yarn can be bought at Joann’s and Michael’s craft stores. However, the yarn sold at Michaels in my opinion is not as nice, and you do not get as much yarn in the ball as you do at Joann’s. The yarn found at Joann’s is the Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ. This has a little over 18 yards in the ball worth of yarn. The Loop-It yarn has a little over 7 yards, and the Loop Boucles has about 16 yards. There are so many colors to choose from, and about half the colors of yarn are multicolored! I believe there are other brands of this yarn too, however these are the ones I have found and since used.

The things you can do with this yarn are endless. I have made a baby blanket, hats, scarves, cowls, and even earmuff headbands but you can go as big as a 7×7 blanket! I learned how to use the yarn from watching this video. The tutorial actually starts at 6:38:

This video taught me the basics on how to use the yarn. After watching this I was able to make a baby blanket in probably 4 hours. Within the next few days I had made a handful of other projects. So I’m telling you that if you are looking to make an easy knit gift that someone in your life would love, this is it and it is so easy to make that you can make it  in a matter of hours. In the last two weeks I have managed to deal with finals for my schooling as well as spend time with my son AND make all of these things! I made an additional cowl and hat that is not pictured here.

If blankets and scarves aren’t enough and you want to make a hat I learned how to make them with this video. One thing I did notice is that this yarn does not stretch that well so make the hats larger then you measured or think you need. Also, Joann’s website/app offers how to projects and gives a variety of ideas on what else you can do with the yarn.

Hopefully this post will give you a few ideas on some last minute gifts. When I tell you this is easy I am telling you this is SO easy! And having this be the last weekend before Christmas this is the perfect time to give this knitting a try! It’s so addictive and fun too! I hope you are able to give this a try. Feel free to let me know if you’ve given it a try and let me know what you think about it!
